The Stigma of Medellin

“Medellín Colombia”. Even the name carries a stigma. Simply saying it aloud and allowing it to linger in the air without further comment conjures images of sunglass- wearing drug kingpins, horrific news reports, elusive guerrillas, and bands of roving assassins terrorizing a population.
El Poblado

El Poblado (the Village) is the financial center of Medellin and is the area with the greatest concentration of wealth. There are multiple upscale restaurants, theaters, high rises, and shopping malls. It is a favorite area to stay for visitors and many of Medellins upper crust both work and live here.
Metro Cable

A great way to get an overview of the city, a ride on the metro cable also makes an inexpensive day trip. And I mean inexpensive as for only 75 cents you can get a round trip ride anywhere in the city. Be careful getting off as some of the upper barrios can be dangerous at times.

Fernando Botero, born in Medellin, is one of the most celebrated contemporary Latin American artists. His major works include figurative paintings along with his popular monumental bronze sculptures.
